Yago Partal's Zoo Portraits are quite possibly the most recognisable images in our collection. First created in 2013, they quickly went viral and were featured by The Huffington Post, Time Out, CBS News and ABC News, among others. Yago's background is in conceptual design and he worked for fellow Spaniard Pedro Almodovar before focusing on his Zoo Portraits.
There are a large number of images in this series, and Subject Matter represents all of them. We only keep a selection on the website, so if you don't see the one you are looking for here, please just email firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll be happy to help!
Artist's Statement: "The series emerged from an experimental process with digital media and an interest in anthropomorphism. Zoo Portraits was born, I guess, from a childish fascination for wildlife, for all those cartoons where animals behave as human beings. You also see the influence of the fashion world - I am interested in exploring a society obsessed with what people wear."
