INES FERNANDEZ DE CORDOVA (b. 1992, Santa Cruz, Bolivia)

Ines Fernandez de Cordova is a young emerging artist from South London; as you’d expect from Subject Matter, Kitty discovered her not in a perfect white-walled gallery, but in an exhibition in a fellow artist’s apartment. Her work is absolutely beautiful close up; it manages to combine delicacy and softness with a striking visual impact.

She is interested in the relationships between objects and time and the manner in which we perceive the two. Ines creates sculptures from plaster or concrete, using them as tools to create still-lives, which she then photographs. From the photographic images, she makes prints, constructing subtle narratives through the use of sequence, mark-making, overlapping and mirroring. A recurring theme in her work is the notion of balance which she explores through exploiting and emphasising the materiality of her sculptural creations.

"Thank you for putting together your vision, bringing such fantastic
people together and for now adding to my home with such a fantastic
piece, for which I am very grateful!"

Sophie | Munich

"Before Subject Matter I would never have thought about being an
art-buyer. It felt like a world I didn't understand and didn't belong
in. You have opened my eyes!"

Cheryl | London

"I was amazed by the buying experience. I was contacted right after I confirmed the purchase and was taken care of all the way to the delivery, and even after. Never had such a friendly and professional service when buying a piece of art."

Olivier | Shanghai
