Artist Statement:

If I imagine myself in a studio half a century away, I still want to be in love with the process of making. I want to enjoy every moment. I make art everyday in some shape or another and imagine in the future I still will. I make art as much for my own wellbeing as I do to put in exhibitions and out there into the world. Weaving for me is an incredibly therapeutic process. I cannot imagine falling out of love with weaving (or photography) as my art practice develops over time.

I imagine myself as an older lady, still taking photographs of things that inspire me. I will be making art for me, and won't have to worry about if it will survive being shipped or whether people will want to exhibit or buy it. There is freedom in that, and enjoyment of the act of making as a result.

I see myself in my home studio, with a cup of tea and art work all around, and it makes me feel happy that I have come so far, and excited about what the next years will bring.’

Laura Segan, b. 1987, lives and works in Devon, UK
